Fauna of mongolia
Mongolia is rich in fauna, consisting of 140 species of mammals, 415 species of birds, 22 species reptiles, eight species of amphibians, 80 species of fish, and over 15000 species of insects, and is home to some of the world’s rarest wildlife. The more exotic rare species include the snow leopard, the Gobi bear and the wild ancestors of three of mankind’s most important domesticated animals – the wild camel, the Asiatic wild ass and Przewlski’s horse. 9 species of bird and 38 plant species are on the verge of extinction and there are mounting concerns about the fate of the Gobi bear, the wild camel and the saiga antelope, among other large mammals.
Entomofauna is rich and diverse, there are many zonal and ecological groups of insects. There are some rare and protected kinds of animals such as, hulan (Asiatic wild Ass), tahi (Przewalskii’s wild horse), gobi bear (mazaalai), havtgai (wild two-humped camel), argali (wild mountain sheep), snow leopard, jeiran, saiga, bustard-beauty or jack, hoof Mongolian saksual jay, eagle lammergeyer, griffon, owl, brown owl, eagle owl, pelican, and swan (desert and steppe areas), deer, elk, Siberian ibex, sable, marten, beaver, otter, pheasant and etc, in rvers are met salmon species (taimen, linok, harius, sig), sterlet, sturgeon and etc.
